With Help from Many, an Ishinomaki Restaurant Reopens After 19 Months

Two Ishinomaki franchises of the Gyu-Kaku chain of yakiniku (grilled meat) restaurants were destroyed by last year’s tsunami.
At one of them, two staff members lost their lives on the job.
Manager Satoshi Kotōno considered calling it quits.
But through Ganbappe Ishinomaki, a group of disaster-stricken businesses, support came in and, combined with government help, this October the shop reopened.
We’ve been following Mr. Kotōno’s story since last July. Now recovery can truly be said to have started.
At the rebuilt restaurant are six new staff members as well as four returnees participating in the shop’s fresh start.
