Konnichiwa! This is ariTV’s Michiru.
Today, we want to introduce you a restaurant which serves basashi (horse-sashimi) in Fukushima’s Aizuwakamatsu.
Tsuruga is locals’ beloved place where you can taste delicious food of Aizuwakamatsu.
Autographs by famous people are displayed on a wall of the restaurant.
Their staple item is of course horse-sashimi!
This over 2cm-thick Gokujo Akami (best lean meat) is very satisfiable!
Only 3kg of the meat can be taken out from a horse.
The horse sashimi complete meal (￥2500) is one of Tsuruga’s big draws. They only use the best horse meat from Aizuwakamatsu.
They also offer reasonable horse-sashimi nabe (one-pot dish) for lunch. You can taste it with spicy miso-based sauce.
We interviewed Tsuruga Aizu store’s manager Ms. Matsushima to hear her thoughts on the 2011 disaster and the future.
When the earthquake struck, parts of the walls and roof of their warehouse fell off, but their restaurant itself didn’t got serious damages.
Since then the restaurant had faced many difficulties in purchasing food, attracting customers and more. She pointed out that tourists came to Aizuwakamatsu including students on a school trip helped their business in adversity.
Hoping more people taste horse-sashimi, Tsuruga has continued operation since after the disaster.
Ms. Matsushima noted that “We are able to do business because of the support from the local people. We are going to continue this traditional restaurant.”
Horse-sashimi has low calories and high protein, and good for health and beauty.
If you have a chance to visit Aizuwakamatsu, why don’t you drop by and enjoy Tsuruga’s sublime dishes?
