Beloved Master’s Long Established Japanese Style Bar
Hello! This is ariTV’s Fumina (^^).
The other day, when I visited Iwate’s Kamaishi, I found the Nonbe Yokochō (drunkards’ side street). Hmmm…it sounds attractive.
Among many Japanese-style bars standing along the street, I heard that one shop was run by a famous female master.
The shop is Okei where the lady who makes you feel relaxed, serves up delicious sake and side dishes.
Okei’s master Yūko Kikuchi. The bar marked its 50th anniversary last year.
Since Ms. Kikuchi started Okei when she was just 26, she has been running the business for over 50 years on her own.
The original Nonbe Yokochō which had been loved by many locals, was washed away by the massive tsunami in 2011.
Then, she thought she should give up her shop. However, lots of her fans encouraged her to reopen the shop, and she ultimately did.
Okei’s big draws are miso oden (a Japanese kind of stew) and squid dried overnight (^^).
The squid is thick, large and satisfying.
The oden has a mild taste and goes well with sake♪
If you come here, you must drink the Kamaishi’s signature sake Hamachidori whose bottle is labeled with Okei’s original design.
The original label is produced with support from Shibuya Nonbe Yokochō in Tōkyō.
You can find it only here, in the Kamaishi’s Nonbe Yokochō
Sake and foods are great, indeed, but the most important feature of the bar is its master, Ms. Kikuchi. When I just met her, I felt friendly atmosphere.
Regular customers told me that they come her to meet her (^^). If I had more time, I would have wanted to stay longer.
At Okei, you can find nice sake, foods, and the heart warming master.
Drop by and chill out!
